FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat is a zine?
A zine (shortened from 'magazine') is usually a collection of art and/or writing centered around a particular theme, character(s), or fandom. Is this zine digital or physical?
The zine will have a digital release, possibly with digital merch as well. What's the zine's rating?
This zine will be SFW only. No explicit sexual content will be allowed in any format, including fade-to-black.Is the project for-profit or for-charity?
Neither! The zine will be released for free download. How will contributors be compensated?
Because this zine will be free, contributors will not be compensated with money. Instead, they will be able to download the zine and any included digital merch for free. Will everyone be credited in the zine?
Yes, everyone who contributes to the zine will be credited and retain full rights to their work. We just ask that, if you choose to sell your work, you wait a few months before doing so.Is AI content allowed?
No, everything MUST be human-made.Can I submit old work?
We’re only accepting new, original works for this zine. Are ships allowed?
Yes! All ships and interpretations are welcome, as long as they are SFW. That means no incest, no pedophilia, and nothing illegal or harmful. What characters can I include?
Anyone you like within the era of the games. This can include characters who don't appear in the games but exist during the same time period. Can multiple people create pieces about the same character or ship?
Yes. However, we will be reviewing pitches as a mod team. If we start noticing that, for example, 14 pieces are about the same ship dynamic in the same emotional beat, we may gently suggest some adjustments just to keep the zine feeling balanced and varied. Mods may step in to balance some things out if necessary. Can I apply to more than one role?
Yes, but please be aware that, if accepted to the zine, you will be assigned one main piece to work on. Additional work in other roles may be approved at the mods' discretion. So, for example, if you applied for writing and page art and are assigned writing as your main piece, you will need to work on that piece first before discussing with the mods any page art you can do.Are collaborations allowed?
Yes, collaborations are absolutely welcome. If tension or confusion arises at any point, please reach out to the mod team and we will mediate. What if I need to drop out?
Life comes first. If you need to drop out, let the mods know ASAP. There will not be a penalty for doing so.
GENERAL GUIDELINES☆ Contributors are required to have a Discord account, as our primary means of communication will be through the server. We may send out emails for important deadlines and announcements as a courtesy, but all required communication will be through Discord. If you do not have an account, you must be willing to make one upon acceptance.☆ All contributors must be responsive throughout the production of the zine. Clear frequent communication is critical to the success of the project. While we do understand life comes first, please be respectful of the zine's schedule and the mods' and your fellow contributors' time. If you can no longer participate in the zine or need an extension, let the mods know as soon as possible.☆ Collaborations of pairs are allowed. Two artists may create an illustration together and two writers may write a fic together. Writers will have the opportunity to pair up with artists for small spot art pieces to go with their fics following the first check-in period.☆ All works created for the zine are required to be new, original, and previously unpublished.☆ Absolutely no AI, tracing, or plagiarism will be tolerated, both in application materials and the work for the zine.☆ All works created for the zine should be kept private within the server until the zine is released. Mods may schedule WIP spotlights.☆ Everyone is expected to treat the mods and other contributors with respect. We're all human and this project is meant to be a fun, safe place to scream about JFO/Survivor. We will not tolerate harassment.☆ Mods reserve the right to drop contributors at any time for violating guidelines.✩‧₊˚─────⋆⋅☆⋅⋆─────˚₊‧✩APPLICATION GUIDELINES☆ We are looking for artists, writers, cosplayers, and alternative creators (music, poetry, anything else creative you would like to offer).☆ You will be asked which roles you would like to apply for and how many pieces you would like to do. You will have the opportunity to pitch your idea. It is okay if you do not have an idea. Formal pitch submissions will follow the onboarding period.☆ All links within your application must be accessible to the mods. If we cannot access your portfolio, your application will not be considered.☆ Submitting samples with characters from Star Wars is encouraged, but not required. Your work must be fannish in nature, ie. not non-fiction.☆ You may apply for more than one role, but please note you will be assigned one main piece to work on and any additional pieces will be at the mods' discretion.☆ Previous zine experience is not required. We welcome those of all skill levels and experience to apply. Follower count will not be a factor when evaluating applications.☆ For all positions, you will be asked to submit your portfolio. If you do not have a portfolio, you may provide a few samples of your best work. We will be evaluating your work based on the following criteria:General: overall quality/effort; originality & creativity; demonstrated love for the games; consistency in style/skill; and ability to follow guidelines.Artists: ability to do complex backgrounds (not just solid colours/patterns); understanding of anatomy, lighting, composition, posing, colour, and perspective; and ability to tell a story through illustration.Writers: ability to tell a complete story in a limited wordcount; ability to convey a compelling story with clear characterisation and a balance of dialogue and narration; and minimal grammatical/spelling/punctuation errors.Cosplayers: finished costuming; high-quality photographs; posing; set dressing; and lighting.✩‧₊˚─────⋆⋅☆⋅⋆─────˚₊‧✩CONTRIBUTOR GUIDELINES/SPECS☆ Contributors are expected to create one main piece for the zine.
